A 32-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after being convicted of horrific sexual offences against a young girl.

The conviction

William Davies, of no fixed abode, Wrexham, stood trial at Mold Crown Court in January where a jury found him guilty of rape. He had previously admitted to assault by penetration of a child and sexual assault.

Sentencing

Appearing at Mold Crown Court on Tuesday 10 March, Davies was handed a 12-year custodial sentence. The court also imposed a 15-year sexual harm prevention order, and he will be subject to notification requirements for life. A 15-year restraining order was also put in place to protect the victim.

‘Incredible courage’

Detective Constable Emily Brierly, the investigating officer, said: “At the centre of this case is a young girl who has shown incredible courage in reporting Davies to police, which has resulted in his conviction today.

“I hope her bravery, and today’s result, will encourage others who have been subject to sexual abuse to come forward and be reassured their evidence will be heard, whilst serving as a reminder to any sexual offender that they will face the consequences of their actions – no matter how and when sexual abuse occurred.

“Tackling violence against women and girls remains a foremost priority for North Wales Police.”
