Teen charged with murder of Lainie Williams in Cefn Fforest

An 18-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a teenage girl and the attempted murder of another woman following an incident in Caerphilly county.

Cameron Cheng, from Newbridge, has been charged with the murder of 17-year-old Lainie Williams and the attempted murder of a 38-year-old woman. He has also been charged with possessing a bladed article.

Police were called to a property in Wheatley Place, Cefn Fforest, at around 07:15 GMT on Thursday after reports that two people had been seriously injured.

Lainie Williams, from Cefn Fforest, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 38-year-old woman, who also sustained injuries, has since been discharged from hospital.

Cheng is due to appear at Newport Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Gwent Police Assistant Chief Constable Vicki Townsend said: “Though we’ve reached this significant development in the investigation, our inquiries continue.”

The force is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
