A Swansea painter and decorator who “cannot control his temper” when drinking has been sentenced to two years in prison for assaulting his partner twice within months of being released from custody.
Jason Beech, 54, of Eaton Crescent, Uplands, attacked his partner of eight years in January and March this year – just weeks after being freed from a 40-month sentence for biting a man’s ear outside a pub.
⚖️ Swansea Crown Court heard how the first assault occurred in January after Beech visited the George pub and later argued with his partner at her home. During the row, he grabbed the woman and threw her against a doorframe, causing shoulder injuries requiring hospital treatment.
The second attack happened during a weekend break to Liverpool in March. After visiting the Cavern Club and stopping at McDonald’s, the couple argued in the street about directions. Beech pushed his partner’s face into a wall, then continued the assault at their B&B, repeatedly punching her to the body and face.
When she asked for her train ticket to leave, Beech refused and forced her legs open, telling her: “I’ll have you whenever I want.”
In her victim impact statement, the woman said: “I can honestly say I don’t know who he is. When the defendant is sober you could not meet a nicer person, but when under the influence he is horrific.”
Judge Paul Thomas KC told Beech: “It is clear from everything I have read that when you are in drink you are a violent man who cannot control your temper.”
Beech, who has 23 previous convictions for 34 offences, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and will serve up to half his sentence in custody.
Defence barrister Georgia Donohue said her client accepted his behaviour was “disgusting” and that he “loses all control” when drinking to excess.
