The Met Office has issued two yellow weather warnings across Wales for January 1st, with severe wind and rain set to impact the country.
Heavy rainfall is expected to sweep across 20 Welsh regions, including Cardiff, Swansea, and Wrexham, from 9am to 9pm on Wednesday. “Heavy and persistent rainfall is expected in association with a low pressure system which tracks east across the UK on New Year’s Day. Twenty to 40mm is expected fairly widely with 60 to 80mm across hills,” the Met Office reports.
Strong winds will affect the entire country from 9am Wednesday until 6am Thursday. “A deep area of low pressure is expected to cross the UK from the west bringing a spell of very strong winds. Gusts of 65 to 75mph are likely around coasts and hills, especially in the south and west, with 50 to 60mph gusts likely fairly widely inland,” according to the Met Office.
Residents in affected areas are advised to stay weather-aware during the New Year celebrations. ⚠️
