A son who kicked, slapped, and spat in his mother’s face before hurling a footstool at her has been jailed for 20 months.
Conor Abraham, 27, of no fixed abode, turned up at his mother’s home in Swansea on August 16 last year and demanded cash. When she told him she had nothing to give – having already handed him money the previous day – he became aggressive and began searching the property.
The assault
Abraham launched a sustained attack on his mother, kicking her and spitting in her face before slapping her repeatedly. He then picked up a heavy footstool and threw it at her. She raised her arms to protect herself and the footstool struck her wrist, causing immediate pain.
He continued slapping her and told her she was not allowed to leave the house. He also picked up a framed picture and smashed it.
Police called
A neighbour heard the disturbance and contacted police. When officers arrived, Abraham fled over the garden fence but was chased and caught. He began crying when arrested and answered “no comment” to all questions in interview.
His mother was taken to hospital where an X-ray revealed a fractured bone in her left forearm.
Previous offending
Swansea Crown Court heard Abraham is currently serving a 16-month prison sentence for inflicting grievous bodily harm following an assault in Swansea on December 6 last year which left his victim with a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain.
He has five previous convictions for 11 offences, including a common assault on his mother in January 2025 during which he picked up a kitchen knife and demanded money.
Sentencing
Abraham had pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage but refused to leave his prison cell to attend the sentencing hearing.
Alexandra Wilson, prosecuting, outlined the case to the court. Andrew Evans, representing Abraham, said his client’s life had “unravelled” during 2025 “when he was in the thralls of a crack cocaine addiction”.
Judge Catherine Richards said the defendant had carried out a prolonged and persistent assault on his mother, adding that as her son the victim should have been able to rely on him.
With a one-third discount for his guilty pleas, Abraham was sentenced to 20 months in prison. He was also made subject to a 10-year restraining order banning him from contacting his mother.
