A 37-year-old has been sentenced to 40 weeks in custody after flouting a court order that barred him from Penarth town centre – and stealing from shops on each occasion he returned.
The criminal behaviour order
Adrian Edros, of Holton Road, Barry, had been handed a criminal behaviour order in December 2025 which specifically prohibited him from entering Penarth town centre. He was also already subject to a suspended sentence order at the time of the offending.
The offences
Between mid-April and early May this year, Edros defied the ban on three separate occasions – each time committing a theft from a local business.
Prosecutor James Subbiani told Cardiff Magistrates’ Court that the first breach took place on April 16, when Edros took toiletries valued at £50.71 from Pearns Pharmacy on Windsor Road.
He was back in the area on May 2, this time targeting Sainsbury’s and stealing steak and chicken worth £61.50. Five days later, on May 7, he returned to the same supermarket and took £42 worth of meat.
Sentencing
Edros entered guilty pleas to all charges at the earliest opportunity. Magistrates concluded that the combination of offending – carried out while subject to both a suspended sentence and the criminal behaviour order – left no alternative to imprisonment.
They told him the offences were “so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified.”
He was sentenced to 40 weeks’ custody.
