A cocaine dealer who stashed almost half a kilo of the class A drug across two properties in the Rhyl area has been locked up for more than six years.

Gareth Hastie, 44, of Kinmel Bay, appeared at Mold Crown Court on Thursday, February 26, where he admitted two counts of possessing cocaine with intent to supply.

The raids

Officers from North Wales Police’s Central Priority crime team carried out warrants at two separate addresses in the Rhyl area as part of a wider investigation into class A drug supply in the region.

Searches of the properties uncovered a significant haul — almost half a kilogram of cocaine with an estimated street value of between £28,000 and £40,000.

Sentencing

Hastie was jailed for six years and four months for his role in the supply operation.

Police response

Speaking after the hearing, Detective Inspector Kris Williams, of the North Wales Police Central Priority crime team, said: “This was a substantial quantity of cocaine which would have caused serious harm within our communities.

“The seizure of almost half a kilogram of this Class A drug represents a significant disruption to the supply chain. Drug dealing brings exploitation, violence and misery to our neighbourhoods.

“We will pursue those who seek to profit from such criminality and will use all the tools at our disposal to strip criminals of any assets they have acquired as a result of their activities.

“We remain committed to targeting those involved in the supply of illegal drugs and will continue to act on information from the public.”
