A man from Pentre has been jailed for a year and a half after admitting to controlling and coercive behaviour and assaulting a woman over a three-year period.
Daniel Batstone, 29, changed his plea to guilty at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court and was sentenced on March 23 to one year and six months in prison.
He admitted one count of engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
South Wales Police officers were called to an address in Pentre in August 2025 following a 999 call about a disturbance. The victim told officers that Batstone had controlled parts of her life since 2022.
The court heard that his violence included kicking the victim in the stomach while she was pregnant in 2022, and punching her in the face in August 2025.
Detective Constable Jack Such said: “This would’ve been a very intimidating and scary experience for his victim. Batstone’s behaviour was completely unacceptable, and violence against women and girls has no place in society.
“I want to praise the victim in this case for her patience, bravery, and courage throughout this investigation. I hope that this sentencing and his time in prison goes some way in providing closure for her.”
