A Pontypool man has been sent to prison and placed under a lengthy contact ban after attacking a woman in Bridgend.
The offence
Liam Evans, 35, of Avondale Road, Sebastopol, Pontypool, admitted a single charge of assault by beating. The attack on his victim happened in Bridgend on October 29, 2025.
Why custody followed
Appearing before Cardiff Magistrates’ Court, Evans was told that nothing short of a prison term could reflect how serious the offence was. The bench was also told he already had a suspended sentence order hanging over him at the point he carried out the assault.
Sentencing
Evans was handed 12 weeks behind bars. On top of that, he must pay £100 in compensation directly to the woman he attacked and a further £250 towards prosecution costs.
Restraining order
Protection for the victim extends well past Evans’s release date. Magistrates made a restraining order on conviction which stays in force until July 21, 2027.
While it stands, Evans cannot approach the woman in any way – neither himself nor by getting a third party to do it on his behalf. He is shut out of any property she uses as a home. He is also forbidden from putting anything online about her, or arranging for anything to be posted, whether she is named openly or merely alluded to.
