A 36-year-old Pembroke Dock man has been handed a suspended prison sentence after police discovered nearly 70 child sexual abuse images on his mobile phone. 📱⚖️

Andrew Davies of Brewery Street was found with 67 illegal images when Dyfed-Powys Police executed a warrant at his home. Davies handed over his mobile phone and security pin to officers, who discovered the illegal content stored in a password-protected app.

Swansea Crown Court heard on Tuesday that the images included nine category A (the most serious), 14 category B, and 44 category C images. Prosecution barrister Sian Cutter told the court that one image showed a child of around three years old whose hands and ankles were tied.

In mitigation, defence barrister Ryan Bowen said his client was “under no illusion as to the seriousness of his offending.” Mr Bowen noted that the offences dated back to 2019, with the police raid occurring in November 2022, meaning the issue has “hung over his life for the last few years.”

“He does not have any previous convictions against him and is of previous clean character. He accepts that no-one else is to blame for this offending. He has demonstrated a reassuring degree of introspection and self control and there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation,” added Mr Bowen.

Her Honour Judge Catherine Richards told Davies, who had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent photographs of children: “The possession and viewing of child sexual abuse affects real children. It adds to the harm caused to them. It is a very serious aggravating factor that some of the images involve children as young as three.”

Davies received an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. He must complete a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement, perform 200 hours of unpaid work, and sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.
