Chepstow Man Caught with Thousands of Illegal Images

A 59-year-old Chepstow man has been handed a suspended sentence after police discovered a disturbing collection of more than 12,000 illegal images during a raid on his home. 📱

Martyn Field pleaded guilty to possessing 1,146 category A images – the most disturbing kind showing rape – as well as 351 at category B and 9,508 at category C.

Newport Crown Court heard that Field also admitted possession of 1,227 bestiality images showing people having sex with animals, possession of 481 prohibited images of children and possession of 12 extreme pornographic images depicting “sexual torture or injury.”

The offences took place on December 18, 2023, when police raided his Chepstow home.

Defence barrister David Scutt asked the court to consider Field’s guilty pleas and lack of previous convictions. He also noted the defendant had sought help from organisations aimed at preventing child abuse.

“He tells me that many good old friends having discovered this horrible dark secret have moved away. Not physically, but socially from him, so he’s lost a great deal. And of course, part of that is to some extent to be expected, and it might be argued that he deserves that,” Mr Scutt told the court.

The court also heard in mitigation that Field is “remorseful” and acts as a carer for his wife.

Recorder Robin Rouch told the defendant that while his offending was serious enough to justify custody, he believed rehabilitation within the community was possible.

Field, of Portwall Road, Chepstow, was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for 18 months. He must complete a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement and will be on the sex offenders register for 10 years. A sexual harm prevention order will remain in place until 2035.

The defendant was also ordered to pay £150 costs and a statutory victim surcharge.
