A pub manager who collected hundreds of indecent images of children has been sent to prison after twice failing to meet the conditions of a community order imposed for his offending.

Ross Cooper, 44, formerly of Gwaun Newydd, Lansbury Park, Caerphilly, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court where he admitted breaching the order for a second time.

Failure to comply

The court heard that Cooper had made minimal progress on the requirements placed upon him. Out of 150 hours of unpaid work, he had carried out just 17. He had also completed only seven days of a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

The original offences

Cooper had pleaded guilty to possessing 280 indecent photographs of children. Of those, 31 were classified at category A – the most serious level – with 19 at category B and 230 at category C.

He also admitted possessing 68 extreme pornographic images showing a person performing a sexual act with animals, alongside four prohibited images of children.

His offending took place on May 18, 2023.

Community order

Cooper was sentenced in March 2025 to a three-year community order. He was required to complete 150 hours of unpaid work and undertake a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

Mitigation

Charles Archer, representing Cooper, told the court that his client had left Caerphilly and relocated to Rhymney after the community he lived in became aware of his conviction. His barrister added that Cooper is a carer for his partner.

Sentence

Judge Lucy Crowther jailed Cooper for six months and revoked the community order. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for seven years.
