Emmett Morrison, who was serving a life sentence for the murder of Timothy Dundon in Neath, has died at HMP Long Lartin. The 40-year-old passed away in hospital on October 16, 2024.
“HMP Long Lartin prisoner Emmett Morrison died in hospital on October 16, 2024. As with all deaths in custody the prisons and probation ombudsman will investigate,” a prison service spokesman confirmed.
Morrison was sentenced to a minimum of 28 years in December 2022 after being found guilty of murder and grievous bodily harm at Swansea Crown Court. The court heard how Morrison, who appeared to be friends with Mr Dundon, was described as a “parasite” who exploited his vulnerable neighbour.
On April 25, 2022, after shopping together, Morrison brutally attacked the 66-year-old, beating him with a blunt object and dropping a heavy wooden cabinet on him before leaving him to die. Later that day, Morrison assaulted 74-year-old Antonio Aprea in a separate incident.
Judge Paul Thomas KC rejected Morrison’s claims of self-defence, stating the defendant had attempted to “blacken his victim’s name.”
