A Swansea woman has been sentenced to four months in prison after attacking a complete stranger in the city centre before assaulting three police officers during her arrest. 🚔
36-year-old Katie Kelshaw, from Swansea city centre, approached a member of the public she had never met before in Swansea city centre during the afternoon of Saturday 27th July and punched him in the face.
When police arrived to arrest her shortly afterwards, Kelshaw escalated her violent behaviour by assaulting three officers, including spitting at one of them.
The defendant initially pleaded not guilty to the charges but changed her plea to guilty on 11th August. She has now been sentenced to four months imprisonment and ordered to pay £100 compensation to her victim.
Sergeant Rachael Draisey said: “Katie Kelshaw is just another example of the negative impact that alcohol and drugs can do to people. Her actions were completely unacceptable, and the drink and drugs are not an excuse. Nobody should be fearful of being attacked by someone like Katie Kelshaw while they are just trying to enjoy their visit to the city centre. She has now rightly been jailed.” ⚖️
