A convicted rapist has been sentenced to life imprisonment for a brutal attack on a woman in her 60s at Glan Clwyd Hospital, Bodelwyddan.
Lee James Mullen, 38, from Flint, sexually assaulted and repeatedly punched his victim in the women’s toilets just six months after being released from prison for a previous rape conviction.
The attack only ended when the victim’s husband checked on her, causing Mullen to flee. The court heard he had been taking cocaine and drinking alcohol before the incident on 10 December.
The brave survivor, who suffered extensive facial injuries and broken dentures, told the court: “I don’t think he was finished with what he wanted to do that night… My husband is my hero.”
She added: “I was determined not to let him win,” saying that although she believed she would die that night, she would “rise like a phoenix from the ashes.”
Judge Rhys Rowlands imposed a minimum term of seven years, stating: “This is one of those exceptional situations where a life sentence can be justified. You are an extremely dangerous sexual predator and the risk you pose to others is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.” ⚖️
