A 24-year-old from Merthyr has been handed a prison sentence of two years and six months for his role in supplying cocaine across the mid Glamorgan area.

Leon Jones appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, May 15, where he admitted two charges – being concerned in the supply of cocaine and possession with intent to supply crack cocaine.

The investigation

South Wales Police launched an inquiry into a drugs line operating across mid Glamorgan. During the investigation, officers identified a phone number connected to the line and established it belonged to Jones.

He attended Merthyr police station voluntarily in December 2025, where he surrendered himself to officers.

What officers found

Analysis of a mobile phone revealed messages clearly linking it to crack cocaine supply. The device was also connected to a property in Dowlais.

When officers searched that address, they recovered a quantity of crack cocaine along with other paraphernalia associated with drug dealing.

Police response

Detective Sergeant Lia Jones said: “These illegal drugs have devastating consequences on the people further down the chain who end up using them, not to mention their family, friends and wider communities.

“We will continue to investigate any information you have which could relate to the sale or use of these drugs, including combating drug lines across the region.”
