A 69-year-old from the Vale of Glamorgan has avoided an immediate prison sentence after admitting he attempted to engage in sexual communication with someone he believed to be a girl under 16.

Glyn Webb, of St Donats Close, Dinas Powys, pleaded guilty at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court to a single charge connected to an offence committed on August 29, 2025.

Sentencing

Webb received a six-month custodial term, suspended for 18 months – meaning he will not be sent to prison unless he breaches the conditions of the order.

The court opted to suspend the sentence owing to Webb’s previously clean record, his “remorse and realistic prospect of rehabilitation”.

Restrictions and requirements

A sexual harm prevention order was imposed on Webb and will remain in force until June 2031. The order carries strict conditions relating to his internet use.

He must also sign the sex offenders’ register, where his name will remain for seven years.

Webb was further directed to complete a 26-day accredited programme alongside a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

He was ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £154 victim surcharge.
