A 53-year-old man has been jailed for four years after a violent late-night attack in which he battered a 64-year-old man with a metal wrench and assaulted a woman.
Leo O’Regan, of Brighton Road, Rhyl, appeared for sentencing at Mold Crown Court on Monday, October 20. He had pleaded guilty to charges of wounding with intent, assault by beating, and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
The incident occurred on Brighton Road, Rhyl, in the early hours of 20 February. During an altercation on the street, O’Regan repeatedly struck the 64-year-old man with the wrench, leaving him bloodied with significant head injuries. He also assaulted a 40-year-old woman during the incident.
O’Regan was arrested at his home address, where the weapon was seized. In addition to the four-year prison sentence, he was made subject to a 10-year restraining order for the protection of both victims.
Detective Constable Andy Etches said: “This was a disturbing incident that left two people injured and shaken.
“I want to reassure the community that such violence has no place in our streets, and we acted swiftly to arrest the offender and recover the weapon involved.
“The custodial sentence imposed reflects the seriousness of the offences, and the restraining order offers long-term protection for the victims.”
