A 43-year-old man has been jailed for 18 months after twice threatening to kill his flatmate in separate incidents. ⚖️

Wayne Tydeman, of no fixed abode, appeared at Swansea Crown Court charged with two offences of making threats to kill.

The court heard that on February 1, Tydeman called 999 claiming he was fleeing domestic abuse. During the 43-minute call, he told the handler he “was going to do something to get back to prison and nothing would stop him” and threatened to kill his flatmate.

Police initially treated it as a mental health incident and took no further action. However, days later, Tydeman told a community nurse at Glangwili Hospital that this was “his last day” and also his flatmate’s last.

The nurse, who described Tydeman as “manipulative” and trying to secure hospital admission, called 999 due to the potential risk to his flatmate. Tydeman discharged himself from hospital but was later found by officers in Carmarthen after phoning police threatening suicide.

Prosecutor Brian Simpson told the court Tydeman had 22 previous convictions for 53 offences, including four previous instances of making threats to kill.

The defendant, previously of Haverfordwest, pleaded guilty to both charges.

Judge Paul Thomas KC sentenced Tydeman to nine months for each offence, stating: “I need to pass a sentence that does keep you out of the public’s hair.”
