A 29-year-old man who assaulted a bouncer, stole his partner’s car and trashed her home has been jailed for three-and-a-half years, with an additional six months activated from a suspended sentence. 🚨
Craig Jones of Kesteven Court in Carew appeared at Swansea Crown Court after pleading guilty to multiple offences stemming from an incident on December 7 last year.
The court heard that Jones was at his partner’s work Christmas party at the County Hotel in Haverfordwest before they went to Eddie’s nightclub. There, Jones became aggressive with a bouncer, calling him a “paedo” and a “nonce” before hitting him in the mouth with his elbow, chipping the man’s tooth.
After police spoke with Jones, he returned to the hotel but then took his partner’s BMW without permission and drove to her Fishguard home.
Prosecutor Dean Pulling told the court that doorbell camera footage showed Jones damaging the interior of his partner’s car before entering her house and causing extensive damage. He destroyed two TVs, a Christmas tree, ornaments, appliances, windows, doors, a mirror, Ugg slippers, and stabbed kitchen units with a knife.
When police arrived, including firearms officers, “a stand-off quickly developed,” Mr Pulling said. Jones was seen arming himself with knives and a meat cleaver, shouting “f*** your mother” and “don’t f*** with me” at officers.
The situation escalated when Jones set fire to cash on the hob and shouted to police that he had turned the gas oven on while the fire was alight, forcing neighbouring homes to be evacuated.
After several hours, officers armed with Tasers entered the home and arrested Jones, who continued to be aggressive, requiring nine officers to detain him. During this process, he intentionally tripped one officer and kicked a custody detention officer.
“You had gone out with your partner to what I understand to be her Christmas party,” said Judge Geraint Walters during sentencing. “At some point in the evening, your erratic behaviour began. The effect of what you did that night upon your partner is plain for all to see.”
Jones pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, taking a vehicle without consent, three offences of criminal damage, arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered, affray, and two offences of assault of an emergency worker.
Judge Walters jailed Jones for three-and-a-half years and activated six months of his suspended sentence – to run consecutively.
