A thug who punched and kicked a woman before ripping her clothes to expose her breasts at a house party has been jailed for 16 months.
Delme Cheese, 25, from Abertillery, carried out the persistent assault before other party-goers had to pull him off the victim and throw him out of the house. The woman was left with a cut to her cheek and was described as “very distressed”.
When police arrived at the summer gathering, Cheese abused an officer, calling them a “s**g” before lashing out and kicking PC Joel Bayliss.
Prosecutor Joshua Scouller told Cardiff Crown Court: “It was a persistent assault on her and he had to be pulled off her. There was the gratuitous degradation of the victim and these offences are aggravated by the defendant’s previous convictions.”
Following his arrest, Cheese claimed the woman had tried to hit him first with a “large bottle of vodka”.
The defendant, of no fixed abode, has 10 previous convictions for 13 offences including affray, possession of an offensive weapon in public, battery, public disorder and criminal damage.
Judge Paul Hobson told Cheese: “This was an assault of a disgraceful nature. The photographs show the victim looking as if she had been beaten up because that’s exactly what you did.”
Cheese admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assaulting an emergency worker. He will serve half of his 16-month sentence in prison before being released on licence and must also pay a statutory victim surcharge.
The offending took place whilst he was subject to post-sentence supervision after a suspended sentence was activated for common assault and criminal damage.
