A 33-year-old local man has been arrested following what police are treating as an attempted abduction of an 18-year-old woman in the Pontprennau area of Cardiff.

The incident took place at around 6.30pm on Saturday, February 28, at the junction of Clos Nant Mwlan and Heol Pontprennau. The victim had just got off a bus when she is believed to have been followed on foot.

The suspect was arrested within hours of the incident being reported and remains in police custody.

Detectives are now working to trace a woman motorist who was driving a black car at the time – she witnessed what was happening and stopped to intervene. Officers are urging her to come forward.

Detective Inspector Laura Parsons said: “Incidents such as this one are extremely rare and I would like to reassure people that we have arrested a suspect who is in police custody.

“I would like to praise the woman who stopped her car to intervene. It’s really important that we identify who she is so she is urged to get in touch.”
