Police are investigating after a young girl was bitten by a suspected XL Bully type dog outside a shop in Trebanog last week. 🚨
The incident, which occurred on Monday, April 7, left the child with three puncture wounds requiring hospital treatment. South Wales Police have confirmed the girl is now recovering at home and her injuries are not life-changing.
In a statement, South Wales Police said: “On Monday April 7, 2025 we were called to reports of a potential XL Bully type dog having bitten a young girl outside a shop in the Trebanog area. The girl sustained three puncture wounds and was taken to hospital. The injuries are not life changing and she is now at home recovering.”
The force also confirmed that the dog involved in the incident “was subsequently put to sleep before we were able to confirm it was an XL Bully.”
Police are reminding owners of XL Bully dogs that registration with Defra is no longer available directly, but urged those with unregistered dogs to come forward. 🐕
“If someone owns, or believes they own, an XL Bully dog which isn’t registered, they can no longer register directly with Defra. We would encourage these owners to contact South Wales Police in the first instance, as there are potential options to register the dog without seizing it,” the statement concluded.
