A woman who gave birth while on remand has been jailed for three years after being caught with more than 40g of heroin as part of a drugs enterprise worth nearly £30,000.

Katie Clark, 32, and William Fellowes, 34, were sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday following police intervention in Swansea on 4 August.

Fellowes was spotted selling drugs to known users while riding an electric scooter near Cwmbwrla roundabout. Messages on his phone revealed he was advertising cocaine for sale, and he was found with £150 in cash.

Police then searched the home he shared with his partner – Clark’s sister – discovering a silver hold-all containing a 382g block of cocaine worth £11,600. Officers also seized £9,540 in cash, tick lists, scales, and further bags of cocaine totalling 193g.

Messages between Fellowes and Clark revealed their joint drugs enterprise.

Clark was arrested at Morriston Hospital and a search of her home uncovered scales with cocaine residue, £810 in cash, tick lists, and three bags of heroin weighing 41.2g.

Prosecutor Dean Pulling said the total value of drugs seized was worth £29,500.

Clark’s barrister, Dyfed Thomas, told the court his client had been in a relationship with a man named Daryl Price who he described as the “driving force” of the enterprise. He said Price, believed to be in Vietnam and Thailand, was “emotionally abusive” towards Clark by applying pressure on her.

Mr Thomas said Clark gave birth while on remand in custody while Daryl Price was “sitting on a beach in Asia”. He added: “If she had not met this man she would not be in HMP Eastwood Park.”

Sentencing, Judge Paul Hobson said: “This was a substantial criminal enterprise. Class A drugs are a cause of misery in society. The use of them ruins physical and mental health and their prospects in life. The drug trade fuels crime to the detriment of everybody.”

Fellowes, of Pentregethin Road, Portmead, Swansea, who has 31 previous convictions, was sentenced to five years imprisonment after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine, possession of criminal property, and being concerned in supply of cocaine.

Clark, of Croft Street, Waun Wen, Swansea, who is of previous good character, was sentenced to three years imprisonment after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply heroin, possession of criminal property, and being concerned in the supply of cocaine.
