A Cwmbran man who instructed what he believed were underage girls to perform sexual acts for him has been jailed for four years.

Lee Pomroy, 55, of Ty Box Road, Pontnewydd, sent explicit videos of himself and arranged to meet his victims – unaware he was communicating with paedophile hunters posing as 13 and 14-year-old schoolgirls.

Roger Griffiths, prosecuting, told Newport Crown Court: “The defendant encouraged each decoy to digitally penetrate themselves and would provide detailed instructions when telling them to finger themselves. He would send them videos of himself masturbating and arranged to meet some of them.”

Pomroy suggested to one “girl” that they meet at Cardiff Bus Station.

Mr Griffiths added: “The defendant asked one ‘14-year-old girl’ if she wanted to talk dirty. He said he going to teach her what it was like to have sex and told her he wanted to meet her.”

Pomroy was in contact with five decoys who had created fake profiles. They contacted police and he was arrested.

The defendant admitted five counts of attempting to cause/incite a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity and one count of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

Pomroy had previous convictions but none for sexual offences.

His barrister David Pinnell said: “The defendant’s best mitigation is his guilty pleas.”

The court heard his client had endured “adverse childhood experiences and was socially isolated”.

Judge Shomon Khan told Pomroy: “You are 55, you have no relevant previous convictions and you haven’t been in trouble for a number of years. Your offending is aggravated by the facts that you told ‘them’ not to tell anybody and you asked for images and sent them.”

He added: “You were determined and persistent. You intended to sexualise 13 and 14-year-old girls for your own sexual gratification.”

Pomroy will serve half of his four-year sentence before being released on licence. He must register as a sex offender for life and was made the subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order. He must also pay a victim surcharge.
