A convicted sex offender from Caldicot has been jailed after asking what he believed was an underage schoolgirl to send him explicit photographs.

Luke Malarz, 47, of Park Road, thought he was speaking to a child but was actually having sexual conversations online with a decoy. The defendant was locked up for 58 weeks at Newport Crown Court after pleading guilty to two offences.

He admitted attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and attempting to cause a child aged 12 to watch/look at an image of sexual activity.

Prosecutor Rose Glanville told the court that Malarz’s offences were committed between 24th February and 26th March. During the conversations, the defendant asked the “girl” to send him pictures of herself when she wasn’t wearing any underwear. Malarz had also told the “girl” he was feeling “horny”.

His barrister David Pinnell asked for his client to be given the appropriate credit for his guilty pleas.

Judge Matthew Porter-Bryant told Malarz he will have to register as a sex offender “indefinitely”. He was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order until further notice.

The defendant must pay a £187 surcharge following his release from custody.

Gwent Police have refused to release a custody picture of Malarz.
