A Cwmbran man is facing a lengthy jail sentence after admitting three serious charges at Cardiff Crown Court.
Lee Athay, 30, pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon – a hammer – on Victoria Street in Cwmbran, as well as assault occasioning actual bodily harm and sending a communication threatening death or serious harm.
The offences were committed on Friday, September 26 last year.
The court heard that Athay has a history of violence.
His barrister, Charles Archer, told the court that his client wanted to be sentenced immediately.
However, Judge Paul Hobson said he wanted a probation report to be prepared on the defendant to assess “risk” and adjourned the case to Wednesday, February 25.
Athay, of The Tower, Tudor Road, Southville, Cwmbran, was remanded in custody.
Kirsten Murphy represented the prosecution.
