Cardiff Council has confirmed that the popular Victoria Park splashpad in Canton will experience a delayed opening this summer.
While the water attraction will still operate for the summer season, officials stated that the opening date will be “a little later” than usual due to manufacturing and delivery delays of parts from Italy.
“Unfortunately the opening date, which is usually around the end of May, will be a little later this year due to a delay in the manufacture and delivery of parts from Italy to our contracted supplier,” reads the latest statement from the council.
Council representatives have apologised for “any inconvenience caused” and assured residents they are working to minimise the delay.
“We will continue to work with our supplier to do all we can to keep the delay to an absolute minimum, ensuring testing and commissioning is completed at the earliest opportunity, and the splashpad opens as soon as possible.”
Visitors are advised to check the council’s social media channels and website for updates before planning their visit.
This isn’t the first time the attraction has faced operational issues. Last year, the splashpad closed earlier than scheduled due to “completely unforeseen” mechanical problems. After opening on May 25, 2024, it was forced to shut down in August – approximately two weeks before its planned September 1 closure date – following a “complete failure” of some pumps that couldn’t be replaced in time.
The Grade II-listed park’s splashpad, which first opened in 2016, has become a favourite destination for families in the area. It features three distinct zones designed for toddlers, juniors, and families.
