A popular Indian takeaway in Port Talbot has been shut down immediately after environmental health officers discovered it was infested with cockroaches 🦗
Mirchi Masalla restaurant on Commercial Road, Taibach, was closed on July 21, 2025, following a routine inspection that revealed filthy conditions presenting an “imminent risk to public health.”
Environmental health officers issued a hygiene emergency prohibition notice during their visit, forcing the seven-days-a-week business to shut its doors to customers straight away.
The case was then taken to Swansea Magistrates’ Court, where magistrates confirmed the ongoing closure with a hygiene emergency prohibition order.
Councillor Cen Phillips, Neath Port Talbot Council’s cabinet member for nature, tourism and wellbeing, said: “Our officers took action to prevent this food business from operating to protect members of the public whose health was being put at risk. Officers are now monitoring the position to ensure the order is upheld and the business will not reopen until this authority is satisfied an imminent public health risk is removed.”
