A 23-year-old Buckley man has been sentenced to four years and two months in prison after admitting sexual offences against a young girl.
Jordan Tarran, of Powell Road, appeared at Mold Crown Court on Thursday where he was jailed for four counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of sexual communication with a child, and one count of making indecent images of a child.
The court heard that Tarran knew the complainant was a child and initially denied any sexual activity when questioned by police. Prosecutor Gareth Bellis told the court that despite “absolutely overwhelming evidence,” Tarran continued to deny the offences even after pleading guilty when interviewed by the Probation Service.
Defending, Oliver King said: “When I read those remarks in the pre-sentence report, I was concerned. My understanding is that it was easier for him in that interview with the Probation Service to retreat into himself and give a blanket denial, rather than face up to the uncomfortable truth of these offences.”
King described his client as having a “mental and emotional age” lower “than his chronological age,” calling him “very childlike.”
Judge Simon Mills addressed Tarran directly: “Even though you pleaded guilty, you’re still telling people it didn’t happen. You do have ADHD, severe anxiety and depression and you have a complex blend of problems. These offences are far too serious for anything other than a sentence of immediate imprisonment.”
In addition to his prison sentence, Tarran was made subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and must comply with sex offenders register requirements for life. A 10-year restraining order was also imposed for the victim’s protection. ⚖️
