A 35-year-old man from Cardiff has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for serious child sex offences following his conviction at Merthyr Crown Court. ⚖️
Christopher Burden from Trowbridge, Cardiff, was sentenced on 28 May 2025 after being found guilty of rape of a boy and multiple offences of sexual assault of a boy by touching, despite denying the charges.
Detective Constable Simon Hicks from South Wales Police praised the victims’ bravery, stating: “I want to commend the victims for their courage in coming forward. It has been a traumatic time for everyone involved and I am hopeful the outcome at court brings the victims and their families some comfort which they deserve.”
South Wales Police emphasised their commitment to supporting survivors, saying: “We never underestimate how difficult it is for survivors of sexual abuse to speak out and report. But we hope cases like this one provide reassurance that victims will be listened to, treated with dignity and respect, and will be supported throughout the judicial process.”
The force urged anyone who has experienced sexual abuse to seek help, adding: “If you have been sexually abused, and you are not yet ready to report to police, please don’t suffer in silence.” 💙
