A paedophile has been jailed after he was caught targeting a young schoolgirl online.

Jack Perry, aged 25, of Nantgarw Road, Caerphilly, was locked up for 22 months by Judge Eugene Egan at Cardiff Crown Court.

The defendant admitted engaging in sexual communication with a child, causing a child under 13 to watch/look at an image of sexual activity and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

Perry also pleaded guilty to making a category A (the most serious kind) indecent photograph of a child and making a category C indecent photograph of a child.

The offences were committed in Cardiff between 28 August 2024 and 6 May this year, following an investigation by South Wales Police.

Perry will have to register as a sex offender for the next 10 years and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for the same period. He is prohibited from contacting his victim until 2035 after a restraining order was imposed, and must pay a £187 surcharge following his release from prison.

Detective Constable Laura Thomas, the officer in the case, said: “Jack Perry used social media to contact an underage victim, who made it clear she was not of legal age. Despite this, he pursued a sexual conversation for his own gratification, sending explicit photographs and soliciting images in return. His predatory behaviour was illegal and utterly unacceptable.”

DC Thomas added: “This ordeal was profoundly traumatic for the victim and their family. The victim has shown incredible bravery, and I hope they can now begin to heal and move forward with their life.”
