A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to over five years in prison after messages on his phone revealed his involvement in supplying nearly 2kg of cocaine 📱💰

Calum Samuel, from Brecon, was initially arrested in connection with a stabbing incident but was later cleared of those charges. However, examination of his mobile phone uncovered extensive evidence of his drug dealing activities.

Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard that Samuel had been involved in cocaine supply for 19 days between November and December last year, shortly after his release from prison.

Messages showed Samuel offering half a kilogram of cocaine for £14,000, claiming his product was “better” than competitors’, and arranging various deals including nine ounces for £7,500.

The court was told Samuel had created videos of himself rapping while holding what he claimed was £10,000 in cash and joking about police arresting him.

Prosecutors estimated Samuel had offered or supplied 1,982g of cocaine during the period.

Samuel’s co-defendant Ricco Douglas, 25, has pleaded guilty to wounding with intent after stabbing a man named Scott Wheel during what was described as a cocaine deal gone “awry” in Llandrindod Wells last December.

Defence counsel Hashim Salmman told the court that Samuel’s descent into drugs began following his father’s death when he was 14, after which he left school without qualifications and struggled to find employment.

During sentencing, Judge Vanessa Francis said drug dealing “brings misery to thousands and thousands of people not just in this country but across the world,” adding: “I have read the misery it’s brought to you and your wider family. This was a huge and valuable amount of Class A drugs you were involved in supplying.”

Samuel, of Heol Y Ffynnnon, Brecon, was sentenced to five years and six months imprisonment.
