A Bangor man has been sentenced to prison after sending explicit images and videos to what he believed was a 13-year-old girl online.

Wayne Barry Williams, 34, of Beach Road, was handed a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence at Mold Crown Court on Thursday, after admitting to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

The court heard that Williams sent a friend request to what appeared to be a child’s profile in December 2023, requesting sexual photographs while sending explicit content of himself. The profile was actually operated by a paedophile hunter group, who alerted police.

Williams committed the offence just six days after being released from prison for a previous conviction, resulting in his immediate recall for breaching licence conditions.

DC Jamie Atkinson said: “Williams has proved to be a threat to women and girls by immediately offending after being released from prison.

“It is lucky on this occasion that the victim was a decoy, or the consequences could have been devastating.”

The judge also imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
