Craig Lloyd has been sentenced to seven years and one month in prison after admitting to two counts of possession with intent to supply cocaine.
The 38-year-old, of Greenwood Avenue, Maesgeirchen, Bangor, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court on 27 March, where he was also dealt with for possession of large amounts of cash and a number of driving offences.
How he was caught
Lloyd came to officers’ attention on 5 March when a neighbourhood policing team patrolling the High Street in Bangor spotted him riding an illegal electric motorcycle.
He attempted to flee, but officers deployed Smart Tag forensic spray – a tool designed to safely and discreetly mark offenders for later identification. The spray, which carries a unique forensic code linked to the canister it is dispensed from, connected Lloyd and the motorcycle directly to the offence.
The search
Once detained, Lloyd was searched and found to be carrying a quantity of cash and cocaine.
Subsequent searches of his home and vehicle led to the discovery of more than £250,000 worth of cocaine in the boot of his car – stored inside a box labelled with his own name and address.
Police response
District Inspector Jamie Owens said: “This is an excellent result for the community, and today’s sentence sends a clear message that such activity will not be tolerated.
“Our neighbourhood policing team remains committed to tackling the issues that matter most to local people.
“We will continue to proactively stop and search any individual suspected of drug supply to protect vulnerable community members.
“Officers have begun trialling the use of Smart Tag forensic Spray to target the use of illegal e-bikes in Gwynedd.
“These vehicles are frequently linked to drug supply, theft, and anti-social behaviour and pose serious risks to pedestrians, road users, and the riders themselves.
“The tool can safely and discreetly mark offenders for later identification. The forensic marker can later be linked directly to the incident, providing robust evidential support for further action.”
