Police Dog Athos assisted his divisional and Roads Policing colleagues in apprehending a 19-year-old man from Swansea suspected of being involved in the supply of drugs last night in the city centre area yesterday.

The man made off on foot as officers approached to detain him near Parc Tawe. Athos and his handler PS Phillips gave chase, and the man gave himself up rather than trying to outrun a German Shepherd.

He was then arrested and taken into custody.

South Wales Police’s PD Luna has demonstrated exceptional skill in locating a vulnerable missing person near LlwynOnn reservoir this Sunday.

The talented general purpose dog, who works alongside PC Williams in the Specialist Operations department, successfully tracked from the missing person’s vehicle through challenging terrain, discovering crucial clues that led to their safe discovery in the forestry area.

South Wales Police shared: “This is PD Luna, one of our general purpose dogs who patrols with her handler PC Williams in our Specialist Operations department. On Sunday morning, PD Luna and PC Williams were tasked to assist with a search for a vulnerable missing person who was believed to be in the vicinity of the LlwynOnn reservoir. As many will know, this is challenging terrain and there was a real concern for the welfare of the missing person. But PD Luna was undaunted and was able to track from the person’s vehicle, finding a number of clues on the way before locating them in the forestry. Her skills meant she was able to lead her handler to the person quickly, ensuring they were able to get the support and care needed.”

“Our dogs are a valuable policing resource and there is little doubt that Luna helped to save a life this weekend. Da iawn Luna and all involved. đź’™”
