A Welsh football club has been left heartbroken following the sudden death of striker Morgan Jones, who has passed away aged just 23.
CPD Llannefydd, based in Conwy county and competing in the Lock Stock Ardal North West league, announced the loss of their “much-loved” player, prompting an outpouring of tributes from across the north Wales football community.
The club released a statement saying: “We are deeply saddened to share the devastating news that CPD Llannefydd striker Morgan Jones tragically lost his life last week, aged 23.
“Morgan was a valued teammate and a much-loved member of our club. He will be sorely missed. A great person who always gave 100% to the cause and will forever be a part of the CPD Llannefydd family.
“Our thoughts are with Bryn, Mel, Brad and the rest of his family, as well as friends and all who knew him. Rest in peace, Morgan. You will always be part of CPD Llannefydd.”
Fellow clubs and football figures from across the region have sent their condolences to Morgan’s family, friends and everyone at CPD Llannefydd.
Bangor FC Chairman Nick Pritchard said: “Tragic news and heart goes out to the team, friends and family.”
Referee Graham Hannah added: “I have had the privilege to referee Morgan on many occasions. He was a lovely lad and a cracking footballer. My thoughts are with everyone who was close to him.”
Mold Alexandra FC said: “This is literally heartbreaking news to read. Sending our condolences to all at Llannefydd FC, Morgan’s family and friends.”
Llandudno Junction FC said: “Very sad news. Our thoughts are with everyone at the club, and with Morgan’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”
