Vandals Strike Popular Owl Sanctuary in Ebbw Vale

Co-owner of The Owl Sanctuary in Ebbw Vale has expressed fury after minors allegedly demolished the toilet facilities at the popular Festival Park attraction 😡

According to Pat Webb, vandals broke in through a window before destroying the male, female and disabled toilets at the site.

“It’s unbelievable. They smashed all the rolls, pulled the pipes out and there is broken porcelain everywhere,” Pat told Newsquest.

“They have caused a lot of damage, and we can’t use the toilets now. The other co-owner is 86 years old, and he can’t come down to the sanctuary because there is no toilet for him to use.”

“It was pure vandalism. Why did they do this? There is no sense in it. Even the baby changing area has been smashed up. There are no toilets in the sanctuary itself.”

While the owls remained unharmed, the incident has significantly impacted operations at the sanctuary, which now plans to establish a GoFundMe page to finance a new toilet block.

The sanctuary shared on Facebook: “Unfortunately as they are minors, we are not allowed to name and shame. We can however give you some good news. A parent of one child has come forward. We are very grateful to the honesty and integrity these parents showed.”

“We are leaving it to the police to sort out now. I think the block is beyond repair so we will start a go fund page to purchase a new one. Unless a kind company would like to donate a new unit.”

“We have at least three plumbers who have kindly offered to do the work for free and an electrician. From the mood this morning in the park to the joy our followers bring, thank you all. We all felt very low today, but you give us the fight to keep going.”

Local resident Mandy James, whose daughter volunteers at the sanctuary, commented: “I’m so disgusted at this, my daughter who is a volunteer here and has been been travelling from Cwmbran for a few years to help the sanctuary to help her with her own issues. She is so upset at this vandalism. She cannot understand it as all the people are there to help these poor animals.”
