Two men have been handed sentences at Cardiff Crown Court after admitting to a pair of arson offences in Brackla, Bridgend last December.

Ellis Lloyd, 19, from Cefn Cribwr, was sentenced to 34 months in a young offender institution, while Taran Mills, 18, from North Cornelly, received a 24-month sentence in a young offender institution, suspended for 24 months. Both had entered guilty pleas to two counts of arson earlier this year.

The attack

The court heard how fire crews were called to Brackla in December 2025 after two vehicles were found ablaze. Detectives reviewing CCTV footage from the moments before the fire identified a Nissan Pixo repeatedly circling the estate before Lloyd and Mills exited the vehicle.

The pair were then captured on camera approaching an Audi Q5 – one carrying a hammer, the other a jerry can. They smashed the rear window of the Q5, poured accelerant inside and set it alight. One of the pair could be seen running from the scene with his own coat on fire. The blaze then spread to a second car parked on a neighbouring drive.

Sentencing

Both were sentenced on Tuesday, March 17 at Cardiff Crown Court.

Detective Constable Sarah Jenkins said: “The senseless actions of Lloyd and Mills could have got somebody seriously injured, and they will have known this when they were committing the offence. I hope their sentences give them the time they need to reflect on their actions.”
