A wanted burglary suspect was among two people arrested after a car was brought to a halt with a stinger in Newbridge, as Gwent Police shared a round-up of recent night-time work by its roads policing officers.
Stinger stop in Newbridge
Officers had been given information that a person wanted in connection with burglary was heading back to their home address in a KGM Tivoli.
A stinger device was used to stop the vehicle in Newbridge, and the wanted individual was arrested. The driver was arrested as well, having failed a roadside drug test.
Vehicles abandoned after failing to stop
A Honda CR-V caught the attention of officers in an unmarked patrol vehicle. It failed to stop, and a pursuit followed. Its driver soon left the car and made off on foot. Checks then showed the Honda had been fitted with cloned registration plates, and the vehicle was seized.
In Ebbw Vale, a moped rider also failed to stop for officers, and a pursuit was authorised. Realising there was no getting away, the rider ditched the moped and ran off. Officers then found it had been stolen from the Caerphilly area. Enquiries are continuing.
Noisy exhaust in Cwmbran
A Seat Ibiza has been seized under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 after residents raised concerns about anti-social behaviour around Edlogan Way in Cwmbran.
Officers identified the driver responsible. According to the force, they had been aggressively revving the engine and deliberately making the car’s aftermarket exhaust “pop and bang” as they drove through the area, causing unnecessary noise. The car was stopped on Edlogan Way.
Reporting concerns
Gwent Police thanked people who keep passing on their concerns. The force said that information helps officers tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and keep communities safe.
