Steven Williams has been sentenced to 45 months in prison after being found guilty of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sexual offence.
The 51-year-old, of St Alban’s Road, Tynewydd, Treherbert, was convicted following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court.
The investigation
An undercover police officer had posted a message in January 2024 on the Fetlife website – a platform dedicated to sexual “kinks and fetishes” – posing as a father seeking someone to “join dad-daughter exploitation” in the site’s taboo roleplaying section.
Williams responded to the post and the pair went on to exchange messages across Fetlife and the messaging apps Kik and Wire over a period of 46 days. Throughout those conversations, Williams expressed a desire to have sex with the officer’s supposed 14-year-old daughter, describing her as a “teen rape toy” and saying he wanted to be her “perv uncle”. He also spoke of seeking a teenager for “breeding” and claimed girls of around 14 were “easily trainable”.
The court heard there were gaps in the communication during that period, and that on some occasions it was the undercover officer who re-established contact with Williams.
Defence arguments
Nick Gedge, representing Williams, told the court his client had not been the one to initiate contact on the website. He added that this was not the type of case where arrangements for travel or hotels had been made.
The court was told Williams had previously served in the Army before working as an HGV driver. References were provided from both his employer and his estranged wife, with whom he maintained what was described as a “platonic friendship”. Williams had no previous convictions.
Sentencing
Judge Richard Kember noted that a pre-sentence report had concluded Williams was a dangerous offender whose “sexual preference for pre-pubescent females” was currently “unmanageable” in the community.
Williams will serve half of his 45-month sentence in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community. He was also made subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
