A man who stole an expensive electric bicycle from outside a Greggs store and took hundreds of pounds in cash from a vehicle has been sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court.

The offences

Johnathan Newbury targeted a Cannondale e-bike worth £3,200 that had been left outside the Greggs branch on Windsor Road in Penarth on September 9, 2024.

The 34-year-old, of no fixed abode, also stole £800 from a vehicle in Cardiff on July 14, 2024.

Guilty pleas

Newbury pleaded guilty to theft of a pedal cycle and theft from a vehicle at a previous hearing on October 9 last year.

Sentencing

The case returned to court on March 23, where Newbury – who is currently a serving prisoner – was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.

The sentence will run consecutively to the one he is already serving.
