A Swansea man has been sentenced to 40 months in prison after using a stolen DHL delivery van to smash into a bike shop and steal two bicycles.

40-year-old Matthew Morgan, from Blaenymaes, targeted Uprise Bikes in Fforestfach on May 12. After first stealing the delivery van and damaging several other vehicles belonging to another business, Morgan then used the vehicle to forcefully cause damage to the front of the bike shop before making off with two bikes from within the premises.

Morgan pleaded guilty to theft, two counts of criminal damage to property under £5,000 and theft of a motor vehicle.

Detective Constable Richard Olsen said: “Matthew Morgan is a repeat offender who continues to show wilful disregard to for the law.

“Thankfully, the security measures at the premises worked as expected, and the incident was captured on CCTV, albeit with the suspect being masked.

“Thanks to the hard work of detectives, Matthew Morgan was identified as responsible for stealing the van and then subsequently forcing his way into the store during the night.

“With this prison term, the people of Swansea will fortunately not have to tolerate Matthew Morgans criminal behaviour for the foreseeable future.”
