A convicted sex offender has been imprisoned after breaching a court order by making sexual comments to someone he believed was a 12-year-old girl.

Christopher Strong, 38, of Nant Rowe, Aberdare, had previously received a suspended sentence in 2022 for similar offences. Despite being subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, he engaged in inappropriate communications with what turned out to be a decoy account run by an “undercover operative”.

The court heard that Strong asked for pictures from the decoy ‘Lily’ and told her he was naked during their conversations. He also discussed inappropriate acts and enquired whether her parents checked her phone.

At Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, Judge Simon Mill stated: “You are clearly a person with a sexual attraction to children. I find it absolutely staggering you’d go back to this sort of behaviour not long after completing the Horizon programme. You said you felt at a loss that it was not carrying on anymore. It just shows you were determined to offend.”

Strong was sentenced to 19 months’ imprisonment and will be subject to sex offender notification requirements for seven years. 👨‍⚖️
