A 30-year-old man has been jailed after sexually assaulting two women on the London Underground before fleeing to Ireland.

Mansoor Ahmed was arrested at Holyhead port after arriving on a ferry from Ireland, following attacks at Gloucester Road and Charing Cross underground stations.

Cardiff Crown Court heard that Ahmed assaulted his first victim at Gloucester Road station in September 2020, fleeing when she screamed. He later attacked a second woman at Charing Cross station.

After being released under investigation, Ahmed disappeared but was eventually apprehended in May 2021. He has now been sentenced to 26 months in prison and will be subject to sex offender notification requirements for 10 years.

Detective Sergeant David Weatherhead of the British Transport Police said: “Ahmed’s behaviour was absolutely disgusting and there is zero tolerance for this on the rail network. I would like to thank the two victims for their courage in coming forward and reporting this offence. Tackling violence against women and girls is a key priority at BTP. Anyone who is a victim of a sexual offence can report it discreetly to us by texting 61016. Always call 999 in an emergency.” ⚖️
