A repeat child sex offender has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison after officers discovered more than 800 indecent images and films of children at his home.
Leof Sceaga, 57, from Cardigan in Ceredigion, had already served time behind bars and received a community order for similar offending before he was caught yet again.
The raid
Police raided Sceaga’s home last May and found him actively downloading illegal material from his laptop. Prosecutor Sian Cutter told Swansea Crown Court the haul included 232 category A images — the most serious classification — along with 331 category B and 269 category C images. More than a dozen bestiality images were also recovered.
Continued offending
Despite being released under investigation, Sceaga carried on downloading illegal material in December. He was also found to have breached sex offender registration requirements by failing to tell police about a new bank account, and breached a sexual harm prevention order by not disclosing he had an internet-enabled device.
Previous convictions
The case was far from Sceaga’s first appearance in court for this type of offending. He was jailed for 10 months at Nottingham Crown Court in 2012 for making indecent photographs of children and handed a three-year community order in 2019 for similar crimes.
Mitigation and sentencing
Sceaga admitted all offences. His barrister Dan Griffiths told the court his client was an “intelligent man” consumed with “self-loathing”, adding: “He knows he has a problem. He has taken steps to address the issue.”
Judge Geraint Walters told the defendant: “You seem committed to continue to search for and obtain indecent images of children. You really are determined to ignore court orders and to continue with this sort of behaviour. Mr Griffiths says you want to change this behaviour and I hope that is now true.”
Sceaga was jailed for 27 months for the indecent images offences with a further three months added consecutively for the breaches, giving a total sentence of 30 months.
He must register as a sex offender for life.
