A convicted sex offender from Monmouthshire has been jailed again after amassing nearly 1,000 indecent images of children just months after his release from prison.

David Cwiklinski, 52, of Kensington Park, Magor, had previously been sentenced in 2021 for distributing and making indecent images of children. Shortly after being freed from that sentence, he resumed searching online for child abuse material.

The raid

Officers searched Cwiklinski’s home in January and uncovered 998 indecent images and videos of children. Among those were 44 classified at category A – the most severe – along with 45 at category B and 909 at category C.

Harrowing content

Newport Crown Court heard that one of the category A films depicted a blindfolded five-year-old girl being abused by two women and a man, while another child of the same age was being raped. A further video showed a toddler being sexually assaulted.

Prosecutor James Evans told the court that despite the scale and nature of the material, Cwiklinski continued to deny having any sexual interest in children – a claim rejected by the judge, Recorder Dyfed Llion Thomas.

Defence

Gareth Williams, representing Cwiklinski, told the court his client had the “best of intentions” upon his release from custody in 2025 and had secured employment, but said the “temptation was too much” and he reverted to his previous behaviour.

“He feels an enormous amount of guilt,” Mr Williams stated. “The defendant feels sorry for his parents, who he supports.”

Sentencing

Cwiklinski pleaded guilty to 10 counts of making or possessing indecent images of children and two counts of breaching a sexual harm prevention order.

Recorder Thomas told him: “You were looking at these images for your own perverted sexual gratification.

“The images and videos were, quite frankly, disgusting and depraved. You took pleasure at looking at them.

“There were some of toddlers being abused in the most disturbing ways.”

He was sentenced to three years and two months in prison and must register as a sex offender for life.
