A Newport man who exposed himself and subjected someone to racial abuse has been locked up for 20 weeks.

Jody Evans, 49, appeared before Newport Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to exposure and racially aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress. Both offences occurred in the city on December 5 last year.

The court heard that the racially aggravated incident was “unprovoked and of a serious nature”.

Evans, who has no fixed abode, received a 20-week custodial sentence and will be required to register as a sex offender for seven years following his release.

In addition to the jail term, he was ordered to pay £85 in costs.
