A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to jail after assaulting multiple police officers and causing significant damage to housing association property. 👮‍♂️

Michael George, of Gaer Vale, Newport, attacked five police officers in Newport and while in custody at Ystrad Mynach police station. The officers assaulted were Sergeant Zak Davies, PC Christian-Victor Calditaran, PC Tillie Bateman, PC Joss Evans and PC Carl Haydock.

The court heard that George caused £1,555.55 worth of damage to two fuse boxes belonging to Newport City Homes during the incident on Saturday, February 15.

While George denied five counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker, he was found guilty following a trial. He did, however, admit to the criminal damage offence.

Newport Magistrates’ Court was told that the defendant has “a flagrant disregard for court orders” before sentencing him to 36 weeks in prison.
