A drug dealer has been sentenced to more than five years in prison after police spotted him using a burner phone in Merthyr Tydfil town centre.
Andrew Davies, 38, from Merthyr, was sentenced to five years and 219 days in prison at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday, February 25, 2026, after pleading guilty to being concerned in the supply of heroin and acquiring/using criminal property.
The investigation
The case began in December 2025 when South Wales Police officers were carrying out a patrol in Merthyr Tydfil town centre. While travelling along High Street, officers identified Davies actively using a ‘burner’ style mobile phone while waiting on the corner of the street.
Davies had previously been the subject of a drugs supply investigation, where he was identified as a suspect of being concerned in the supply of a Class A controlled drug.
The arrest
Davies was arrested and searched. Officers found him in possession of over £5,000 in cash and the Nokia phone. When the phone’s data was downloaded, it revealed Davies had been sending multiple messages offering heroin for sale.
Police response
Sergeant Andrew Carver said: “This case highlights our commitment to tackling drug-related crime and ensuring that those who seek to profit from illegal activities face the consequences of their actions. We will continue to work tirelessly to make our communities safer.
“Davies was a known drug dealer so to have him off the streets shows our commitment to ending the blight of drugs on our communities.”
